Pitching Clinics

We are excited for you to meet and work with our pitching clinician, Lori George. Lori has been a pitching coach for about 10 years and spent 5 years coaching at the high school level. She played softball at Cooper High School and was an all-conference pitcher.  Her specialty is the riseball but she also threw and teaches the curveball, drop, change and screw.  She enjoys helping pitchers find their strengths while gaining speed, accuracy, and confidence.

Lori's family includes her husband Mike and 2 sons - Braden (9) and Camden (5). The boys are their biggest fans during their coed softball games! Session 2 (or winter clinics) begins in early January. Pitching, catching, and skills will be offered during session 2.

All athletes participating in pitching clinics will have an open gym opportunity on Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  No outside instructors are allowed. Due to small gym space, this time and space is limited to pitchers and catchers. Softies must be used.

Catching Clinics

Micaela Trainor returns to run our catching clinics for a second year.  Micaela played high school softball for Winona Cotter and collegiate softball at St. Thomas where she was multiple year starter at catcher, earning all conference and national player of the week honors.  In addition to being a great defensive catcher, she lead the team in several offensive categories.  Her college coach, John Tschida has said, “Her work ethic took her from being a very good player to being a great player.  Micaela is a great player, but an even better person.  She is 100 percent about the team and making sure her teammates are in a place where they can be successful on and of the field.”  She currently works as Program Operations Associate for Thrivent Financial.

Shannon Brophy (D-1 athlete, catching specialist):  Softball player turned coach with a mission to develop and support girls as they pursue softball and grow into powerful athletes and women.  Shannon was a catcher for the Cooper Hawks and later for the Minnesota Gophers.  She coached at Cooper High School for 4 years and for the Cooper Armstrong Association for 8 years.

Barry Stern (elite coaching):  Has coached youth fastpitch for 16 years. From 2001-2012, Barry coached at Cooper/Armstrong. Barry and fellow Hopkins coach, Shannon Brophy created the CA Heat club team, leading their 18U team to a State Championship and a 5th Place finish at Nationals in 2010.   CA Heat was designed to help athletes prepare for college level play. Barry is currently coaching Hopkins traveling fastpitch.

Dave Lindstrom (Professional Baseball Player): Dave played Division 1 college baseball at Texas Tech University where he was an All-American catcher.  He then played professionally in the Detroit Tigers organization for several years.  Dave has been involved with Hopkins fastpitch program as a coach, clinician, and board member since 2009 and is currently a head coach for Golden Valley Little League.  Prior to coaching fastpitch softball and baseball at the youth levels, he coached baseball at both the high school and collegiate levels as well as serving as a private instructor and clinician.
