Summer Season Update-May 6th

First and foremost, we hope your family is healthy and safe during these unprecedented times.  You families' health and safety remains our top priority.

We wanted to provide an update on the status of the summer season.    Minnesota (USA) Softball is the governing body for our leagues. We learned last week that they are collaborating with several local youth baseball associations (KSTP News Link) to propose standardized safety guidelines for play in Minnesota this summer.  Their "2020 Back to the Diamond" guidelines have been presented to the Governor's office for review, feedback, and consideration.  These guidelines are attached for your review.

At this time, these guidelines and proposed timelines are being reviewed by State policy makers and have not been approved.  All are hopeful to receive greater clarity from the Governor's office this week to determine what if any changes need to be made to the "2020 Back to the Diamond" plans or timelines.  The current proposed timeline is:

  • May 11 - Statewide communication to baseball and softball associations with guidelines & requirements.

  • May 18 - Begin baseball and softball practices with no more than 16 people on the field, including coaches and players.

  • June 1 - League games with spectator traffic and distancing guidelines in effect and managed. Tournaments: Possible trial events to be held the weekend of May 29-May 31, with the tentative start dates of tournaments on June 5-7.

We recognize that families face difficult decisions regarding returning to softball this summer.  With everyone's situation being unique, we believe that this is a decision that each individual family will need to make for themselves.  We encourage you to begin having those discussions within your family as we will need a fairly quick response if guidelines are approved for a return to play.  If you have already made the decision that your daughter will not being playing this summer, please let us know, and we will process a refund for your summer registration fee.

We thank you for your patience as we work through these unusual times.  We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.
