Pitching Clinics

We are excited for you to meet and work with our pitching clinician, Lori George. Lori has been a pitching coach for about 10 years and spent 5 years coaching at the high school level. She played softball at Cooper High School and was an all-conference pitcher.  Her specialty is the riseball but she also threw and teaches the curveball, drop, change and screw.  She enjoys helping pitchers find their strengths while gaining speed, accuracy, and confidence.

Lori's family includes her husband Mike and 2 sons - Braden (8) and Camden (4). The boys are their biggest fans during their coed softball games! Session 2 (or winter clinics) begins in early January. Pitching, catching, and skills will be offered during session 2.

All athletes participating in pitching clinics will have an open gym opportunity on Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  No outside instructors are allowed. Due to small gym space, this time and space is limited to pitchers and catchers. Softies must be used.

Winter Skills Clinics - ages 6 through 12u players

Starting in January, skills clinic for girls ages 8 through 12u eligible (based on birthday on 12/31/17) will take place on Sundays.  These sessions run an hour in length and are organized by our volunteer coaches.  In addition to our coaches, girls will have an opportunity to learn from high school players who will help out at these clinics.

Advanced Skills & Training Clinics - 14U, 16U, and 18U

An advanced skills & training clinic for players 14U and older will be offered on Thursdays.  Thursday clinics will be run by Brad Horstman, Shannon Brophy, and Barry Stern.

Brad Horstman began coaching in 1996 at Hopkins High School.  He was hired as a key assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas in 2000.  As a former head coach at the professional level, Horstman has a unique all-level approach that allows him to specialize in helping all fastpitch players regardless of where they currently are in their playing career.  Horstman attributes his instructing pedigree to working side by side for 18 seasons with John Tschida (St. Thomas), the youngest elected coach to the NFCA Softball Hall-of-Fame, and the only NCAA Softball coach to win national titles at multiple universities.

Shannon Brophy is a softball player turned coach with a mission to develop and support girls as they pursue softball and grow into powerful athletes and women.  Shannon was a catcher for the Cooper Hawks and later for the Minnesota Gophers.  She coached at Cooper High School for 4 years and for the Cooper Armstrong Association for 8 years.

Barry Stern has coached youth fastpitch for 16 years. From 2001-2012, Barry coached at Cooper/Armstrong. Barry and fellow Hopkins coach, Shannon Brophy created the CA Heat club team, leading their 18U team to a State Championship and a 5th Place finish at Nationals in 2010.   CA Heat was designed to help athletes prepare for college level play. Barry is currently coaching Hopkins traveling fastpitch.
