The Role of the Organization is...
- to elect a Board of Directors that includes a President,
a Treasurer, a Secretary, a Fundraising chair, a Player Agent, and a League
Director to conduct the business of planning and executing Summer and Fall
seasons.
- to form TEAMS that will function as a competitive unit
from the group of players in our community who elect to make a traveling
TEAM commitment.
- to enlist community members or hired persons to assist
in the evaluation - TEAM formation process and to serve as coaches for
the TEAMs.
- to support the coaches with up-to-date information, training
equipment, and facilities that enhance the art of coaching fastpitch softball.
- to Budget for and raise funds for the financial commitments
that are made and decided upon by the Board of Directors.
- to provide for and encourage players to get involved
in activities that will promote skill development and experience.
The Role of the
Coach is...
- to plan effective training experiences for the players
on the team at a level appropriate for their age and level of skill.
- to advance the skill levels of all players during the
course of the season.
- to develop a line up for batting and position play that
will give the TEAM the best possible chance to succeed and the individual
the best possible chance to increase her experience.
- to communicate with players/parents about practice and
game schedules so that proper prior planning can take place.
- to conduct the game with strategies that are consistent
with the level of skill and the age of the players.
- to insist on the highest level of sportsmanship from
herself/himself as well as for her/his players.
- to listen to concerns/questions as they arise. If such
concerns cannot be addressed immediately, it ought to be done in as timely
a way as possible.
The Role of the
Player is...
- to come prepared with everything you need to play/practice
the game of competitive fastpitch softball.
- to come prepared for changing weather as competitive
players play/practice in all kinds of weather.
- to come to the practice field or game field or traveling
line up on time. It is not fair to ask your teammates/coach
to wait for and worry about you.
- to inform your coach/team manager that you will be unable
to attend a practice or game as soon as you know about the problem.
- to come with a will do, can do attitude
to the practice field as well as the game field.
- That means hustling...rather than walking.
- That means "how do I"...rather "than why do I?"
- That means "I will try"...rather than "I can't."
- That means giving your play, your full attention.
- to give your best effort to help your TEAM and yourself
improve. No matter what the drill or activity, you help your TEAM best
if you contribute your best effort.
The Role of the
Parent is...
- to make sure your daughter knows that, win or lose, your
love her and are not disappointed with her performance.
- to be realistic about your daughter's physical ability.
Help your daughter set realistic goals for her season.
- to emphasize improved performance, not winning. Positively
reinforce improved skills and true effort.
- to try not to relive your own athletic past through your
daughter.
- to provide a safe environment for training and competition.
This includes proper training supports such as guiding their nutrition,
monitoring the amount of rest, and providing them with adequate equipment.
- to control your own emotions at practices, games and
tournaments. Don't yell at other players, coaches or umpires. Don't coach
players during their games. That will only confuse them.
- to be a cheerleader for your daughter and the other girls
on the TEAM.
- to respect your daughter's coaches. They are for the
most part volunteers who are contributing may hours, to help many girls.
Communicate openly with them. If you disagree with their approach/decisions,
discuss it with them in a timely way. Don't disrupt a practice or game
for an answer that can probably wait.
- to be a positive role model. Show you daughter you enjoy
sports yourself. More importantly show her you value her commitment to
her sport.
- to be prepared to help your daughter's TEAM or coach
when you are called upon. Remember this is a volunteer organization. Everything
goes more smoothly when people step forward in times of need.
