Hopkins Sports Board Meeting

Attendance:  J. Thibault, T. Hathaway, K. Ries, D. Crouser, D. Meyer, J. Rouse, M. Schaefer, M. Gallagher, M. Olson, P. Campbell, K. Campbell, C. Eischens, S. Minkel, M. Grahek, T. Undis, B. Nybo

1)      J. Thibault started the meeting with opening remarks.

 

2)      Secretary’s Report was approved as written.

 

3)      No Treasurer’s Report available.   Search committee holding interviews of potential candidates for Treasurer.

 

4)      M. Olson presented the Fundraiser Report.  He presented an update on the Royale and will provide updated winter gym data at the next board meeting. 

 

5)      Winter Gym Update.  Last 11-1 p.m. session was 13-March due to start of high school tryouts.  Final winter gym session for other two age groups will be Sunday, March 26.  Wednesday night pitching at Alice Smith is also complete. 

 

                  ACTION:  D. Meyer to post information about the end of winter gym on web.

ACTION:  C. Eischens to contact A. Greene and J. Schurle for end dates at Alice Smith

ACTION:  Cancel permits for remainder of winter gym times in April.

 

6)      Evaluation Committee – Next meeting Saturday morning at J. Thibault’s house.  Makeup evaluations were held on Sunday with 11 kids attending. 

 

7)      Summer Registrations numbers by team were reviewed.  Next Suburban League meeting is scheduled for April 2nd.  Field permits – M. Olson to attend meeting March 21st.  Will request 3 fields at WJH, 3 fields at High School and 1-2 fields at Guillium.  M. Schaefer volunteered to be the scheduler for fields for the summer season – thanks Mark!  T. Luther will supply umpires for Royal Rampage and league games.  Anticipated cost will be $70/night for 2 games.  Field maintenance will be required at West Jr. High and the High school.  Schaefers and Minkels have interested kids for this job.  J. Rouse has taken the lead in registering teams for summer tournaments.  Will continue working with coaches to get teams scheduled for the season into their respective tournaments.  Each team will play 3 tournaments plus Qualifier and State tournaments.   Season leadoff picnic will be held Friday, April 21st.  S. Minkel and J. Parsons to co-chair this event.  Equipment still being reviewed for needs for the season.  T. Undis submitted bill for pitching machine repair $316.  Also need to pay Metro for 2 dozen balls and 12 bat grips.  Board approved payment of invoices.  Agreed that 12U Silver team will rent uniforms for the summer season with a deposit of $50.  Insurance was discussed.  Will use Bollinger for insurance again this year. 

ACTION:  Schedule meeting with Brian Burley and Ted Levens for 14U team.

ACTION:  C. Eischens to invite Metro Sports to April 21st picnic to take orders for equipment.

ACTION:  M. Gallagher to contact C. Doherty to invite MHGS coaches to a coach’s clinic April 2nd from 10:30 – 12:30 at Eisenhower. 

ACTION:  M. Olson to contact GALS organization for interest in attending coach’s clinic.

ACTION:  S. Minkel to contact Battys for return of catcher’s gear. 

ACTION:  Coaches to contact respective players for ordering of uniforms. 

ACTION:  N. Rouse to complete and mail in the insurance forms.

 

 

8)      Royal Rampage Update – 6 10U and 6 12U teams have registered to date for the tournament.  Permits and concession stand available for the Rampage. 

 

9)      High School Update from M. Peterson.  Season appears to be off to a good start.  B Squad team was announced today. 

 

10)   Old Business:   Regripping of bats still needs to be complete.  B. Nybo has action to do this.

 

11)   Old Business:  T. Undis to do inventory to see if additional pins need to be ordered.

 

12)    New Business:  M. Grahek to research the Twins Matching Funds program for possible field improvements.

 

13)   New Business:  T. Undis suggested adding an equipment exchange to the website. 

 

14)   Meeting adjourned at 9:12.  Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Hopkins VFW.
