Hopkins Sports Board Meeting

Attendance:  M. Peterson, M. Olson, B. Nybo, M. Schaefer, M. Gallagher, T. Hathaway, R. Rivett, T. Parsons, J. Thibault, P. Campbell, K. Campbell, C. Eischens, T. Undis, S. Minkel

 

1)      M. Peterson started the meeting with opening remarks. 

 

2)      Secretary’s report for November was approved as written. 

 

3)      The Treasurer’s Report was approved as presented.  Now being invoiced monthly from the school district for rental fees.  Winter Gym clinicians have been paid through Session I.

                         

4)      M. Olson has set another "Hopkins Sports day at the Twins" for Sunday, May 7th, against the Detroit Tigers. Game time is 1:10 pm. The tickets are $15, and Hopkins Sports will get $6 in return for every ticket sold. 

 

            Action:  D. Meyer to send e-mail about Twins tickets and post on website.

Action:  Committee of J. Thibault, R. Rivett, T. Undis and M. Olson to draft list of what fundraising dollars will go for (batting cages, improved backstop/netting, hard surface between fields, etc)

Action:  R. Rivett/M. Olson to apply again to the Twins Fund for possible funding for field improvements

 

5)      In conjunction with the high school softball program, the first annual softball gala will be held in April at the Hopkins VFW.  Evening to include a spaghetti dinner, raffle, and silent auction.  Co-chairs for this event are M. Olson and C. Eischens.

 

6)      Winter Gym Session I complete.  Session II starts January 8th.  Pitching gym is full so some registrations will be returned.  Alice Smith will be open on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. for Hopkins kids to get additional pitching time.  Hopkins Sports to cover the gym rental.

 

7)      Fees for next summer were discussed.  It was determined that no multiple discounts will be offered but will offer a payment plan for those families with multiple players in the program.  Additional fundraiser fee has been eliminated for the upcoming year.

 

            10U - $200 (no early discount available)

            12-18U - $325 (with early discount of $35 available before 2/1/06)

   

8)      Evaluation Committee will meet January 3rd at 6:30p.m. at J. Thibault’s house.  Evaluations are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 4th.  16U and 18&U teams are now open (no waivers required but player leaving an organization must send notice and no restriction of number of kids that can move up).  Rosters need to be submitted by February 15th or 28th.  Next year’s deadline will be December 31st. 

 

9)      New high school varsity coach is Anne Campbell.  M. Peterson met with Anne and Dan Johnson.  Anne will visit winter gym and work with each team for one practice.  Her summer softball camp will be held in early June.  Coaching staff will be J. Hempel, J. Hall and S. Johnson.  There will be no 9th grade team at the Junior Highs.  Teams will be Varsity, Junior Varsity and Sophomore.

 

10)   Old Business:  Copies of the John Tschida parent/coaches clinic video are available to loan out.  T. Hathaway to be the librarian for Hopkins Sports. 

 

Action:  D. Meyer to put on website information that is available for checkout 

 

11)   Mary Nutter clinic will be held on January 13th and 14th at the Minnetonka Marriott.  The high school booster club will pay for the high school staff to attend.

           

12)   Old Business:  Regrip of bats needs to be complete by the end of March. 

 

            Action:  B. Nybo to complete

 

13)   New Business:  M. Schaefer and M. Gallagher met with MHGS to discuss working more closely together.  Would like to have a combined coaches clinic led by the high school coach; Will have joint mailing for summer registration using a brochure concept developed by T. Hathaway/M. Schaefer.   

 

Action:  C. Eischens to contact A. Campbell for database of kids in elementary/junior high for mailing.

           

14)   D. Meyer to scan all prior documents (birth certificates, winter gym, and summer and fall registrations) for ease of retrieving data.  Thanks Dean!

 

15)    T. Undis discussed the results of the first committee meeting for the Royal Rampage tournament tentatively scheduled for June 3rd.  Next committee meeting will be January 16th before the next board meeting.
