Hopkins Sports Board Meeting

Monday, April 18th, 2005

 

 

Attendance:  M. Olson, C. Eischens, B. Nybo, R. Rivett, M. Peterson, D. Meyer, S. Minkel, T. Undis, J. Rouse, J. Thibault, C. Goneau

 

1)      M. Peterson started the meeting with opening remarks. 

 

2)      Secretary’s Report for March was approved with corrections.

 

3)      The Treasurer’s Report was approved as written. 

            ACTION:  R. Rivett to issue refund to 18U players due to lack of team

 

4)      Fund Raising – M. Olson sold 70 tickets for Hopkins Fastpitch day at the Twins Game on May 1st. Hopkins Fastpitch will receive $7 for each ticket sold.  Raffle tickets will be handed out at the Kickoff Picnic on April 21st.  Thanks for raffle donations from the Raney and Undis families. Each family will be asked for $65 raffle money at the kickoff picnic.

ACTION:  M. Olson still waiting history/feedback on the corporate letter, M. Peterson to meet with him

 

5)      Winter Gym – Another good year for winter gym.  Thanks to all that lend a hand to make it a success.  Will discuss at a future date if we open it up to kids from the outside for next season.

ACTION:  M. Peterson to get gift certificate for Stan

 

6)      Evaluation Committee presented their recommendation on team formation to the board.  At 10 and 12u’s the teams were formed by age.  At 14 and 16U, they were formed based on numbers.  Typically, teams at that level are formed based on evaluations.  There will be 2 10U teams coached by T. Hathaway and M. Olson; 2 12U teams coached by J. Rouse and C. Goneau; 1 14U team coached by M. Peterson; and 1 16U team coached by M. Peterson, J. Thibault and N. Pulsifer.  The board approved the team formation and thanked the evaluation committee for all their hard work. 

ACTION:  D. Meyer to post teams on website. 

           

7)      Summer Registration – Uniforms are on order.  Tournaments registered for are Eagan (10-16U) and the Sioux Fall Ringneck (12-16U).  The 10U’s will play in the Edina Mayfly and the Hopkins Royal Rampage.  All teams will play 3 tournaments, Qualifier, and State Tournament.  Any additional tournaments will be funded by the individual team.  There will be a coaches meeting on Sunday, April 24th at the High School fields. 

ACTION:  R. Rivett to book hotels for Sioux Falls at the Ramada or Holiday Inn City Center

ACTION:  T. Undis to contact the Knights for field maintenance

ACTION:  All coaches need to get their schedule of field needs to T. Undis

            ACTION:  J. Rouse and T. Undis to move equipment from Eisenhower to garage/West

            ACTION:  C. Eischens to copy medical release forms for each coach.

            ACTION:  T. Undis to have the locks to the garage re-keyed.

ACTION:  T. Moynihan to contact Hopkins District Field Maintenance regarding use of the shed at West.

 

8)      Royal Rampage Tournament – Currently 8 12U teams registered and 5 10U teams registered.  There will be a parent signup form to work at this tournament.  A $100 deposit will be required and returned pending the fulfillment of the work requirement at the tournament.  Next tournament meeting will be held April 25th at the VFW at 7 p.m.

ACTION:  Members asked to e-mail concession ideas to T. Undis

           

9)      Kickoff picnic to tentatively be held on April 21st at Hopkins High VFW.  Schedule is to gather at 6:15; eat at 6:30 and have breakout session at 7 p.m.  A Metro Sports representative will be at the picnic.

 

10)   MMFL/MSF Update – The Suburban League will have approximately 117 teams this summer.  There is talk about potentially having a championship tournament between Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota teams at the end of the fall season.  MMFL is looking at the possibility of funding a scholarship for a graduating senior.

 

11)    R. Rivett to contact Bifs for facilities at both West Junior High and the High School Fields.
