Hopkins Sports Board Meeting

Attendance:  M. Peterson,  J. Clark, T. Undis, C. Eischens, F. Ricco, J. Rouse, J. Thibault, D. Meyer, R. Rivett; T. Parsons, C. Batty, T. Moynihan, M. Rodgers

 

1)       M. Peterson started the meeting with opening remarks. 

 

2)       Secretary minutes were approved as written.  No Treasurer’s report was available.

 

3)       Winter gym will complete on Sunday April 4th. 

 

ACTION:  D. Meyer to post date on website.

ACTION:  M. Peterson to ensure J. Meyer has been paid for winter gym

 

4)       Indoor make-up evaluations have been completed.  Outdoor evaluations are tentatively scheduled for April 17th & 18th for the 12 and 14U’s at West Junior High. 

 

5)       Discussed Registration by age group.  Currently have the following kids registered.  18 plus potential 2 at the 10U level; 16 at the 12U level; 22 at the 14U level; 11 at the 16U level; and 1 team of 13 players at the 18U level.  Anticipated coaches are J. Rouse at 10U, S. Cook at the 12U, M. Peterson and K. O’Dea at the 14U, J. Clark at the 16U, and J. Thibault at the 18U.    Parent meeting for the 12U’s will be held Monday, April 12th.  J. Thibault to chair the meeting.  D. Meyer to post meeting notice on website.  Will be refunding registrations to 3 players at the 18U level.  Final posting of teams will be complete by April 28th.

 

6)       T. Moynihan discussed uniforms costs from Metro Sports.  Shirt is $9.95 and short is $12.95.  Printing costs are based on volume.  Masks to be certified next year.  Will have sliders, helmets and knee pads for sale at the Spring Picnic.  Will place order on April 20th.

7)       T. Undis presented new trading pin design.  Those pins with lights will sell for $3.00 and those without will sell for $2.00 

 

8)       Permits for fields at West Junior High have been submitted by M. Peterson.  J. Rouse will again provide metal storage containers for equipment at West.  Thanks Jim and Rouse Mechanical! 

 

9)       Building Committee was formed to look into adding batting cages at West.  J. Rouse and T. Undis to lead the committee and meet with the Athletic Director at the High School for permissions.

 

10)    Coaches were asked to pick tentative dates when they’d like to have home games/practice times.  Initial feedback was as follows:

 

18U – Tuesday and Thursday

16U – Tuesday and Wednesday

14UBlue – Monday and Thursday

14U Black – Tuesday and Thursday

10U - Monday

 

11)    J. Rouse, T. Parsons and M. Peterson interviewed S. Cook for the12U coaching position.  23 tournaments have been signed up for to date.  Will be staying at the Holiday Inn for the Sioux Falls tournament.  Need to convert the rooms to individual players/parents credit cards by May 24th.

12)    Spring Picnic tentatively scheduled for April 27th at 6:30.

13)    Suburban League update was provided.  Suburban League expanded their board from 3 to 5 positions.  M. Peterson is one of the additions to the board.  Next Suburban League meeting will be held on April 4th at the Ridgedale Library.  $415 per team is the registration fee this year. 

 

14)    J. Clark mailed letter to R. Schwartz of the Hopkins/Minnetonka Rec Department regarding field usage requests.  Letter was mailed 3 weeks ago with no replay. J. Clark also trying to contact T. Luther regarding umpires fees for the upcoming season.  Bat inventory was completed.  L. Hardy still has bats that need to be returned from last year.  J. Clark was given permission to purchase 2 new bats.  18U team was granted an $84 credit toward a bat purchase of their choice.  Discussion was held regarding condition of catching gear as well as possible new ruling on plastic versus metal mask.

                                Usage

 

15)    T. Undis asked for field maintenance/construction help.  Will be looking for parent help as required.  Board agreed to authorize $12/hour for field maintenance on game nights.  J. Clark to contact the Knight family to see if they are interested again this year.

 

16)    R. Rivett to draft letter to the High School Athletic director, Superintendent and School Board regarding several issues affecting the high school softball program as well as Hopkins Sports.  Letter will be mailed to board members for review and then submitted.

 

17)    Meeting adjourned at 9:45.  Next meeting scheduled for Monday, April 19th.
