To: Families of Hopkins Fastpitch players
Re: Additional Support Requested – Matching Funds Available
You know a girl who has played softball with us in the last couple of years. Hopefully she had a wonderful time and is excited to continue playing this great game.
In 2011, we fielded six Recreation League teams from D1 to D5 and had five teams 10U to 14U in the Travel Program. We continue to provide Winter Clinics to develop players and held our second round of "Softball Saturdays" to introduce the sport to girls at the elementary school level. It was even better received the second time around, and resulted in double the participation at our youngest age levels.
We applied for and received a grant of $12,500 from Hennepin County for field improvements at Hopkins North and Hopkins West. We put up $8,000 of seed money for the project and the school district chipped in some more. The result is vastly improved field conditions and benches at these fields.
In the last couple of years, the Organization’s finances have fallen on hard times, causing us to deplete our reserves. A steady, reliable source of revenue dried up in 2009 and corporate sponsorships have dwindled. Meanwhile, costs have skyrocketed, especially for field rentals and coaching. We operated at a deficit in 2010 and in 2011 to date. This cannot continue.
We have tried to cover the deficits through significant cost reductions and very modest program fee increases. It’s just not enough. We now turn to those of you who can offer additional support.
Please make a donation to help us to continue offering high quality fast-pitch softball programming at an affordable price to girls residing in (or attending school in) the Hopkins School District. A core group of current and former Board members have put up challenge funds of $1,000. Your donation will receive a ‘match’ of 50% from this fund until it’s depleted.
